Gourmet Premium – Olive Oil – Aceite de Oliva

gourmet-premium-olive-oilThere are a lot of choices in Buenos Aires when it comes to olive oil.  Some oils that are imported cost $300 or more per litre.  That is expensive!

We used to buy Carrefour brand olive oil; it tasted good, came in a nice glass bottle and was within our price range at $34.00 a half litre. We had to start looking for a different brand because Carrefour stopped stocking it.

We bought a couple of different brands in the meantime and finally discovered Gourmet Premium brand; it is of comparable quality to the Carrefour brand but it is much cheaper.  The only drawback is that it comes in a plastic bottle; we transfer then, the oil into a glass bottle that we reuse.

We buy Gourmet Premium brand olive oil at Más Pollos on Calle French.  Their retail price is the best we have found in the city – $20.00 per bottle (500 ml).

La Casa De Rio Negro

Handcrafts and products for sale – La Casa De Rio Negro – productos y artesanías para vender

We visited the Casa De Rio Negro the other day and inquired about products for sale there and information about that province.  They gave us some brochures and maps.

As far as tourist destinations go Rio Negro has many attractions.  It is a province in the the south of Argentina with a lot of natural beauty; it comprises many different ecological zones; it spans from the Atlantic Ocean to the Andes.

We were told that the train ride from Viedma, their capital, to San Carlos de Bariloche during a full moon is especially spectacular.  Bariloche is home to a world famous ski resort.  The coast is also a favorite destination as the water in the Gulf of San Matiás is said to be very warm.  Rio Negro is home to many wineries, orchards, ranches and farms;  the well known “El Bolsón” where many people live a simpler and more self-reliant way of life, producing much of their food and making handcrafts.

This province is an area very rich in fossils; there is a world renowned museum of paleontology.

Wool products and handcrafts for sale – La Casa De Rio Negro – artesanías de lana y hilada a mano

The Casa Del Rio Negro is a super place to buy jams, jellies and concentrated fruit juice; they have the best prices in the city of Buenos Aires for Frutas del Sur products.  We bought a cherry jelly there and we are really enjoying it.

The Casa sells beautiful hand made wool crafts and wool as well as very attractive clay pottery – all at very competitive prices.

Everyone we met at the Casa de Río Negro were warm, patient, friendly and helpful; we plan on trying most of the conserves and concentrates for sale there. Our visit to this Casa was a good introduction to the people and products of that province and we are now interested in visiting there some day.
