Obras Maestras Del Terror (Masterpieces of Terror) is an Argentine Spanish language horror film based on short stories by Edgar Allan Poe.
The film contains three separate stories all featuring Argentine/Spanish actor Narciso Ibáñez Menta in the lead role; for many he was the face of terror in the Spanish speaking world for much of the twentieth century.
The three stories were adapted by Luis Peñafiel and were based on Poe’s short stories, “The Facts in the Case of M. Valdemar,” “The Cask Of Amontillado,” and, “The Tell-Tale Heart.” The screenplay was written by Rodolfo M. Taboada.
These stories are terrifying! The adaptations are remarkable. If you are familiar with Edgar Allan Poe’s work you will probably appreciate this film whether you speak Spanish or not. If you are not familiar with Poe’s work this movie might induce you to become acquainted with it.
Narciso Ibánez Menta acted in many horror films and this one is a great introduction to an amazing talent. Enjoy!
