Our Bag Plant – Sansevieria trifasciata

bag-plantWhen we have plastic bags that are a bit soiled we throw them in the washing machine.  To dry them we place them on the leaves of our snake plant.

Sansevieria trifasciata is the scientific name of the plant; it is also commonly known in different parts of the world as mother-in-law’s tongue, tiger tail and Saint George’s sword among others.

Some of the more commonly known relatives are asparagus and agave.  It is native to Africa but has been distributed to all parts of the world.

Some people believe that the snake plant keeps away evil spirits; NASA did a study that found that is one of the best plants for improving indoor air quality.  It passively absorbs such toxins as nitrogen oxides and formaldehyde.

Snake plant is a good addition to any home: it cleans the air, rids the space of evil spirits and can serve as a dry rack. 🙂
